Look at work close to what you want: lettering for lettering, portraits for portraits, and examples near your intended size. Ask to see healed examples if available; a fresh tattoo does not show how it looks after healing.
Check who made the pieces you like. A shop gallery can contain work by several artists; each profile above links to that artist's own work.
